I Am A Survivor

“Working with people who share similar experiences has been life-changing. They understand where I've come from, as they've faced their own challenges.”

— “Queen Elizabeth”, Participant

I discovered Project Share through someone I knew while I was homeless. The shelter directed me to the program, and upon learning about it, I realized it was the support system I needed. I sought assistance in maintaining sobriety, finding someone to talk to during difficult times, and becoming more comfortable discussing my emotions openly. Project Share has enabled me to express my feelings openly, a privilege I didn't have before.

I don’t know how long I've been with Project Share, but I'm here today because I'm a survivor. I visit regularly for appointments and meetings and have formed a close-knit community here. Unfortunately, many people outside don't care about the homeless, but I'm determined to change my situation and my mindset. I've been aware of this program for four years, when I first heard about it I was sleeping on a park bench. I didn’t need to change.

It wasn't until recently that I decided to seek out help. Now, I have a legal ID, a social security card, and access to health benefits, and my life is improving. Homelessness doesn't define me, and I no longer have to live like I'm destitute.

Working with people who share similar experiences has been life-changing. They understand where I've come from, as they've faced their own challenges. In the past, I've experienced mistreatment from peers and advisors in other institutions who wanted to keep me down. However, I'm determined to rise above those obstacles with the support of Project Share and its resources.

Homelessness doesn't define me, and I no longer have to live like I'm destitute.
